and so far, Starz has released a few teaser photos from the set, introducing us to the show’s pantheon of old gods, new gods, and the occasional leprechaun. As fans of Neil Gaiman’s beloved novel know, the book is filled with plenty of bizarre deities and fantasy sequences, whether that’s a madcap carousel ride at the House on the Rock or the new god Media (played by Gillian Anderson) manifesting herself as Lucille Ball.
But one of the novel’s most, um, memorable scenes involves the ancient Bilquis, a goddess of love and sex who thirsts for attention and worship. And now, Starz has shared a first look at the sultry goddess, played by Yetide Badaki.
While Bilquis only appears briefly in the novel, showrunner Bryan Fuller has said that she’ll play a much bigger role in the TV series, telling Den of Geek that she’s “a major player in this world.” He also added that they won’t be toning anything down when they shoot Bilquis’ most notorious, mind-bending scene.
“That came up in the Starz meeting,” Fuller told Den of Geek. “They were like, ‘How are you going to do that moment?’ and we said, ‘We’re going to do it exactly as written.’”
