But all those hunters out there who do it for sport are a-holes!!! What happened to the people I used to know?!?! These days, everything is all about yourself!
I'm not picking either. I detest the people who bring home a deer just so they can put it's head on their wall, yes, but I understand if you have no other choice. what a lot of people don't realize is , meat is exceedingly high in protein, and that's something you REALLY need, especially if you're living a rugged lifestyle, because you really can't survive on wild edible plants. I live near deep woods in New England, and, from what I've learned in nature classes, most wild edible plant are so small you'd have to forage for HOURS just to get yourself a half-decent meal. You can bring down a deer fairly quickly, and though I know it's gruesome, skinning it and deboning it can be done efficiently in half the time it would take to forage. If you then not only ate and preserved the meat and fat and organs, but also used the hide to make clothes, the bones to make tools, and other innards to make equipment (the bladder makes a waterproof pouch that will float), not much will be wasted. If I had to die, using my death to ensure another person's survival is a pretty good way to go, much better than the girls who are raped and murdered in back alleys. There's worse way's to die than being shot, if they're good, your death is almost instantaneous.
Hunting for Sport is wrong on so many levels. I can't even believe it gets called a sport. Hunting for survival is another thing entirely, but realistically, how often does someone need to do that? when pigs, chickens and many cows and bulls are bred for food anyway.
I don't think it's ever right, but in some cases it's not necessarily wrong either.
Hunting for sport - wrong. Looks like everyone here thinks that and that doesn't surprise me!
Hunting for survival - it's win/lose. Saying hunting for survival is "right" suggests that the predator's right to live rules out the prey's right to live, which I don't agree with. But nor do I think that the prey has more right to live than the predator. Both have an equal right to live, and hunting for survival suggests that one dies in order for the other to live. So I don't think there's a right or wrong way about that.
I do think that hunting for food is a better option than farming though, for both humane and health reasons.
