The power behind ‘Big Little Lies’ is a strong one — and everyone on set can feel it. HollywoodLife.com caught up with Stephen Graybill before this weekend’s finale to highlight just how incredible it was working with the powerhouse cast.
“I loved the writing. I didn’t know who was in the show [when I signed on],” Stephen Graybill who played Saxon Banks in the HBO adaptation of
. Stephen, a theater vet, came to the show ready to put in the work. “When I arrived on set with Shailene [Woodley], I had never met her. She was super open, willing to really play. I asked her like, ‘Oh do you wanna run the lines and be comfortable with the wording?’ And she’s like, ‘Yeah we don’t do that actually.\'”
Stephen was insanely impressed with the actress, and the entire crew of the show. However, what really stood out to him was the extremely strong women behind and in front of the camera, including Shailene, Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Zoe Kravitz and Laura Dern.
“I’m a very socially conscious person, and one of my favorite things about the show is that it is so filled with female stories,” Stephen added. “Nicole said at one point, ‘It’s female stories
can relate to.’ Obviously I can’t talk confidently about that. However, the stories are female stories that are told by strong, confident, intelligent, women that need to have a voice in culture. It’s exciting. There’s no way around that.”
“It’s my entire life. It’s so fulfilling to me. It’s all been leading to this place where I took control of my career,” Reese said about the show in a recent interview with Yahoo! Style. “It came out of a frustration, of seeing the kind of roles for women that were so flimsy. Buying books that have complex and real interior lives of women is my life’s work. I’m a storyteller, but I’m passionate that women have stories that need to be told.”
