"What happened?" she asked.

October. One of Kiki's پسندیدہ months. October meant Halloween and Halloween meant vampires, goblins, witches, ghosts, and things of that nature. Abby did a facepalm. Kacey was in 2nd place and it was the last lap of the race. Wally was gloating about being in 1st place.
