But not the kind we have in America. I feel like America is less capitalist and more corporatist (is that even a word lmao?). I don't feel like socialism would work in a society like America's and communism never worked before. So imo it's a lose, lose, lose. But I guess with capitalism I can buy cool shit that I don't need and then lose.

Social democracy á la Bernie Sanders. Which ain't actually socialism but rather capitalism with a strong social security net and better labour/environmental protections.

Social democratic principles were at their height after WW2 to constrain the excesses of capitalism and try to prevent the kind of conditions that led to the two World Wars. That we abandoned those principles I'm sure has led us to where we are today - social unrest, populism, the GFC and its many aftereffects. IMO the best, realistically achievable bet is that we return to the measured social democracy that gave us stability and security during the 50s and 60s.

Capitalism is far from perfect but look at Venezuela if you want to see the downside of socialism.

I'm sorry to say I have no better ideas on which economies work best though.

Capitalism is not nice but socialism/communism has almost never ended well. Like it's pretty rich for rich dumb brats in the first world to tell all of Latin America, that is dealing with the Venezuelan refugee crisis, to "accept socialism as the true way of life" when we're not even fucking RICH COUNTRIES IN THE FIRST PLACE.
