I've always hated her! Everyone knows the story, although Disney altered it from the original a bit. They didn't alter it as much as they did the others

Snow's definitely not boring. How can such a happy, helpful person be "boring" or "uninteresting." Sure, she doesn't paint or anything, but she loves to cook, that's noted as interesting with Tiana, she loves animals, a trait for every other princess. Lots of things.
Aurora is only uninteresting or "boring" because of the combination of her shy personality and lack of screen time. This make her seem flat in comparison to princesses like Ariel and Jasmine. I don't really think any of the princesses are boring, and I find them all very interesting. This is isn't an insult, but we all do have our own definitions of interesting I suppose.

Briar Rose gets so little meaningful screen time that I don't think we can really say whether or not she has a shy personality. She's very friendly with the animals. She only seems shy with Prince Phillip, and it's not clear how much of that is from her natural personality, or the fact that he just sneaks up on her and shocks her from behind, or the fact that she's disobeying her "aunts".

Too much of her screen time is spent in a trance, or sleeping, or exasperatingly mute. She doesn't even have a single spoken line after Prince Phillip awakens her! So, we just don't get to see much of her personality at all.

That's why I always call her Briar Rose, rather than Aurora. What little we really do see of her, she is Briar Rose.

Okay I'll admit Sleeping Beauty was a boring movie and even I was affected by Aurora's lack of screen time. But lets face it, this is Sleeping Beauty. If you know a version of SB where she has more of an active role, lets hear it! If Disney had followed the original version would it have been more interesting? No. Why? Because she'd still be asleep but for longer (100 years)!

I think Aurora is ethereal, mysterious, has a gentle nature but was taught to be polite when talking to others in order to prepare her for life as a Princess. She's not shy but she is quiet and softly spoken (when she's not singing). I have history of shyness so I know what I'm talking about. I'm outgoing with close friends, close family and online though.

None of the Disney Princesses are shy or not shy as I know it.

So little rant over and I stood up for her which is what I wanted to do.

Imo, Aurora's struggle with whether or not to see Phillip again and her first giving him a brush off by telling him that he can see her again never and then immediatelly contradicting it by telling him they'll have to meet today was more of an action that gave a look into her personality than anything Snow White did during the entire movie. Snow seems boring to me because I simply don't see a personality there, it's just a number of qualities: she cooks, she waits for a prince, she loves animals. We never see her going through any emotional struggles or conflicts (and compared to her, Aurora had plenty of it during that little screen time she had. I mean, pretty much every single thing she does in the movie it related to some life changing experience she has to face and the way she reacts to it: her newfound love, the shocking truth about herself, near death experience, happy ending - and through it all we actually see her struggles unlike with Snow White who faced a lot of similar things but barely showed any emotional reaction to them other than maybe fear and did nothing but running away and then cleaning the house and then eating a poisoned apple).

I also find Tiana to be very annoying and underdeveloped because she starts her movie with a goal she ends up achieving by the end without changing any of her priorities or developing as a person. She remains the same throughout the whole movie and doesn't face any struggles or emotional conflicts - other than maybe one when she refuses to take Facilier's offer that could have given her a dream career and a resturant, but I don't really consider not co-operating with an evil person who clearly means harm to people even if he offers you a deal a character development, if anything it is just a casual act of decency. Tiana doesn't end up realizing how much of a destructive influence her obsession with work has on her private life and that she should not have dedicated all the time she had in her life to her career and trying to fulfill her dad's dream. She has a goal in the beginning of the movie and she achieves it in the end without going through any evolation and I view it as a lazy writing. There is nothing wrong in a heroine that works through a goal but it should make a way for some character development to make a story work. Mulan, for example, goes to war to save her father but eventually realizes that she wants to stay in the army (even when Shang gives her a chance to leave) to prove something to herself and she comes to realisation that she didn't just do it for her father and that she wanted to prove that she was worthy of something and could be her own person, a person that is capable of great things. With Tiana it was the same goal and same attitude throughout the whole movie and I really found it boring and uninteresting.

Briar Rose does deal with life changing experiences, but unfortunately we don't really get to see much of her personality in the way she deals with them. Like I said, we don't even know whether or not she's shy. Her reaction to Prince Phillip is contradictory and confused. This is understandable, since she's never ever even met a guy before and she's fallen in love with the first one she met. But regardless of the reason, her confused reactions don't reveal much about her personality. It's just a confusing mess. It isn't even clear whether she really met Prince Phillip in her dreams. What little dialog there is leaves it ambiguous, and it seems to suggest that Prince Phillip did not have reciprocal dreams.

Briar Rose's reaction to her "aunts" revealing the truth is nothing more than what would be natural for any girl in that situation. The movie makers could have expanded upon her reaction with some dialog, or even just her facial expressions. But they didn't want to show a Disney Princess with any ugly facial expressions (a rule which no one told Glen Keane about, apparently).

Most disappointing, though, is the utter lack of any dialog between Aurora and Phillip after he wakes her. There's no reason for it, since showing their happy reunion wouldn't violate the rule against ugly facial expressions.

As for Snow White, my main impression of her comes from the way she treats the dwarfs. Even before she meets them, she assumes they need mothering. When she finds out they're actually adults and not children, she still bosses them around anyway--even though they're actually her elders in every way. (The dwarfs are messy and dirty because they are typical men, not because of any childlike quality.) I actually don't like this sort of person in real life, but that's not the issue.

Aurora wasn't supposed to be shy or not shy and I think it was pretty clear she wasn't either of it because had she been shy she wouldn't have even had the guts to talk to Phillip after just meeting him considering that she never had an experience with guys peviously. Yet she does talk to him and even intitiates their second date. Which I view as an indication of her not being shy. On the other hand, she is obviously not that dashing because she mever showed any sort of rebelliousness towards her aunts. Her reactions may be typical for a girl of her age, but still, they are there. We get to see them. With Snow White, we don't really. We see a number of qualities, we see her trying to be bossy with dwarfs for no reason other than it being her character trait that was there because it was just there instead of it being some logical emotional reaction to her situation. We see her doing things because she just likes to or feels like doing those things, with no explanation given. Aurora's reactions are seen, obvious and understandable whereas Snow's reactions are unclear because we don't know why she acts that way, she just does.

Snow White since she seems to be a bit bossy and childish. At least Aurora was a bit mysterious, and ethereal. Aurora had reasons for everything she did too. Even if she's a bit boring.

She spent the majority of her screen time asleep, and the little she was actually conscious for mainly consisted of her going "I want a guy", getting a guy, losing the guy, and then getting the guy again.
