I read him as Spanish (as in from Spain) and Black, mixed.

He always seemed pretty mixed to me... Greek/Spanish/Indian/Black, or something like that. Either way, he's very attractive. :D

Eh, probably mixed if I was really honest.

I feel he looks too Indian he's not so dark he got olive/brown/dusky mixed skin tone and his hair I feel he looks totally India.

I guess it should be noted that the filmmakers said they deliberately kept his ethnicity vague so the audience could draw their own conclusions.

I think they said that Maldonia is a fictional country set somewhere in the Mediterranean, so... draw whatever conclusion you want out of that.

I agree with tygers about the Mediterranean. I thought he was from a middle eastern country like Tunis or Egypt or around there

My theory was that he's ethnically Indian and that he's from an originally Indian country that was once colonized by a European country (likely Italy). It makes sense to me, since there are a lot of countries around/in/near Africa and Asia where the people speak European languages but are ethnically African or Asian. His name, his features and the outfit his mother was wearing at the end of the movie all seem to point to Indian.

I would have picked Latino, since his voice actor is Brazilian (but then again I don't consider Brazilian Latinos and I don't really understand the concept of this race) but I think Maldonia is in Europe, for some reason. Eo he's either of mixed blood or part of a made up race.
