Most people do not give Ariel credit for saving Flounder in her opening scene, neither do they give her credit for saving Eric, Sebastian, nor teaming up with Eric to save Triton and the mermaids/mermen enslaved to Ursula. But Ariel does all of these things.

in the most important showdown, the one with ursula, ariel gets through mostly because her friends and her dad have her back. that makes her more of a damsel than people want to admit, but it has nothing to do why she isn't a heroine in my book. i just don't find anything about her impressive or worth looking up to.
