Disney Princess On the other hand, I think Mulan is too loved, sometimes excessively

@Gitantia: And so this your opinion. But for those of us who love Mulan, we will flat out disagree with you.

She deserves the love she has.

It's fine that she's loved, it's that a lot of her fandom is quite... passionate to the point that they tend to act like she's better than the other girls (not them just having a preference- she's what a "real" woman is) and are way too sensitive to people not liking/feeling neutral towards her, while it's perfectly fine to bash most of the other DPs.

And the thing is she's usually liked for shallow reasons off fanpop, not her humility or loyalty but just because she beats up big tough guys and Is Not Like Other Girls, not her good traits that actually deserve love, so yeah.

So, what's the problem?? In fact, most of heroine who actually did something heroic like save the world tend to.be loved by almost everyone, compared to those heroines who are not.

I don't think you can love a princess too much. There is some weird stuff though... I was talking to someone (not on fanpop) and I told her about how part of Mulan's reason for joining the army was because she wanted to prove something and feel better herself, and she admitted it wasn't just selfless. That was literally a scene in the movie where she said that. And the person started raging at me saying I hated Mulan because I didn't see her as 100% selfless (which I don't even think is a good thing a lot of the time). I told her I love Mulan and she got even madder. I've seen a few people like that where they get mad if you don't think Mulan is flawless. But that's one of the things I like about Mulan.

it's been a problem for a long time, although in this third wave of feminism that's definitely begun to change. Thank God. People are realizing it's ok to be "ordinary" or be girly or whatever reason they previously hated certain female characters for.

also, why do you need to save a country to be likable? Meg and Belle and Ariel and Rapunzel didn't, Lizzy Bennet didn't, Rey didn't, many asoiaf/Game of Thrones women didn't, female villains don't, doesn't stop them and tons of other famous characters from being popular

and the problem isn't she's loved, it's that her fandom for years has been super rude and obnoxious and sometimes just outright hateful to other characters and people who like them. to them, you don't have the option of not appreciating Mulan as The Best Princess or talk about her flaws (even though simultaneously she's more like a real person to them, which generally... includes having flaws). There's a lot of misogyny there that never gets called out as it should. People devote more energy into criticizing harmless stuff like fairy tale twu wuv or whatever than how bad the fans can be and realizing it's ok for women to not meet the super high standards of Mulan or whoever. it's just as important for kids to see themselves in "ordinary" heroines as it is ones that do incredible feats.

She's not "loved excessively." She's a great character, and she deserves the credit.
