There's been spots that I'm not a fan of because I'm not interested in getting updates from that spot but if I find something cool, I'll add it. Also another spot that I participate in the Icon Challenge but I'm not a fan.

Also if someone's going to troll/spam, all they'd have to do was join the spot. Making it mandatory before adding something won't change anything.

I upload relevant stuff on spots that I'm not a member of. Don't ask. It's what I do when I'm bored *shrug*

I don't see how it's lurking if you're adding content, making yourself seen.

I've seen people get heat from others for adding content without fanning the club. It is very annoying.

Anyways, my answer is no. When Once Upon a Time was on, I'd unjoin the club the every Sunday and rejoin after I watch the episode. I don't like getting all the spoilers in my updates. That doesn't mean I don't want to contribute.

Nope. With spots for tv shows in particular, if I'm behind on the show (and almost always am because I don't live in America so everything hits me about a year later usually), I don't like to join until I'm caught up so that I can remain spoiler free. But I still like to check out images etc from episodes I've seen.

And like fanfly, I participate in a number of icon contests in spots that I already left due to massive amounts of uninteresting crap that clogged my updates. I don't belong to the Movies spot or the Television spot, yet I'm in those spots regularly checking out picks, contests etc.

It's a good idea in theory, but I think some spammers would go to the extra effort of joining the club in order to keep up their spamming. I don't think the horror of being listed as a fan of something they don't actually like would be enough to stop them.

Also, some people leave clubs because they're too active and spam their updates, but they're still enough of fans to contribute well there. This idea would lose their contributions. And sometimes a person might not be a fan but might want to vote on a poll, ask a question etc. I've asked a genuine question in a club I wasn't a fan of myself.

And what'd happen if you were a fan but later left a club? Would your earlier contributions disappear?
