I'm sorry, I don't mean to offend, but I just think some questions are pointless.

So why is this even a question? Really? Especially the yes-oprion buzzles me. As it's not as if he asked anyone to come with him; everyone joined him out of their own free will and Sam even would've rather drownedd than let Frodo go alone. And as for the question in itself; doesn't the story prove a million time in a million ways that Frodo would've died and the Ring been lost, if it wasn't for the rest of the Fellowship - especially Sam.

Uhm, no. Much as i love Frodo, he was a klutz and would have died tripping over his own sword 30 times if not for his friends.

He needed the rest of the Fellowship and particularly Sam. If not for Sam, Frodo would have been killed by Shelob and the Ring found either by Gollum or an orc.
