Chester Bennington VMAs tribute cut short after moving Jared Leto speech 

A moving tribute to Chester Bennington and Linkin Park left some MTV Video Music Awards viewers unhappy after MTV cut the segment short.

During Sunday’s ceremony, Thirty Seconds to Mars frontman and Oscar-winning actor Jared Leto paid tribute Bennington, 

“Chester was my friend, as he was to so many and witnessing his life taught me important things, especially about working relentlessly; pursuing dreams and being kind and caring while doing it,” said the Thirty Seconds to Mars singer. “When I think about him, Chester, I see his face, which was always smiling. I think about his heart which he wore on his sleeve. I think how kindly he treated me, my brother, Tomo and our band. I think about his wife and six incredible children. I think about his family and his band who were really his brothers and I remember his voice, at once ferocious and delicate. That voice will live forever.”

After sharing a supportive message to those people who feel “like there is no hope,” Leto introduced a video clip of Linkin Park and Bennington performing at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards. After a few moments, however, the broadcast cut to a commercial break.

Viewers reacted to the abrupt conclusion to the tribute online.

The Bennington tribute wasn’t the only time MTV cut to break before the end of a performance. Singer Julia Michaels had her VMAs appearance ended early, which drew outrage online.
