Nightfall Chapter 22: Tail Between Their Legs (Jake's POV)
I heard Nessie screaming for me as glass rained down around me, falling over the shocked vampires…well all but Alice and Edward who knew that it was coming. Edward pulled Bella behind him protectively blocking the shards of glass from so much as grazing her. I snorted at that like it was necessary Bella could take care of herself now. Edward smirked at me, no doubt assessing my thoughts the look on his face seemed to say, “Like آپ wouldn’t do the same if it were Nessie, dog.” Well, he was right but he was still ridiculous.
I hit the ground running and a chorus of snarls erupted directing my attention to my oldest daughter. Sarah and Jake were facing off with Sam, Leah and Seth in between them I plowed right into the three of them shoving them out of the way Sam growled and Seth yelped in surprise.
“Sorry guys,” I thought.
“What the hell Jake,” Leah growled.
“That’s what آپ get for not answering me.”

When I came back in human form I centered in on Sam. Carlisle was trying to get him to phase back. He kept trying to get up but was limping and couldn’t support his weight and would fall back down. Seth and I picked him up and carried him out back so that he could phase. Once he did he was wincing in pain as Seth and I carefully helped him get his shorts on. Carlisle came running out.
“Careful he broke his leg, get him up to my study and I will set the bones. He should be good in a few hours.” I was surprise that Sam wasn't مزید injured after having 3 vampire/ بھیڑیا hybrids knock him into a wall. Come to think of it I was surprised that the house was still standing...Seth and I pulled Sam to his feet just as Amore came sashaying up to Seth.

He turned into a drooling idiot and was completely useless. So of course I wasn’t even the least bit surprised when he let go of Sam who put his weight on the broken leg سے طرف کی accident.
“Motherfucker!” Sam yelled as I grabbed him and supported him.
“It’s alright I’ve got you. Damn it Seth can آپ just try to stay focused?”
He grinned sheepishly. “Sorry Sam” his eyes drifted back to Amore, “she’s just quite the distraction.”
Sam rolled his eyes as he huffed, “I'll give آپ a distraction- young imprints...” I hurriedly got Sam upstairs for Carlisle to take care of him not just because he was in pain but I could feel the unspoken truce between us becoming kind of strained. Now that things were back to normal I felt uncomfortable being around him for too long. Everyone was still watching in silent awe at the fact that Nessie alone had just accomplished what all of them together couldn't. I strode up to my wife still in shock myself. I wrapped my arms around her and whispered into her ear, “You didn’t even need me…”

My head snapped up. “That reminds me آپ two. Here. NOW.” They shuffled over to me with their heads down. Jake bumped into her on purpose sending her sprawling onto her bottom. Everyone - even Esme- cast him baleful glares and Blondie smacked him. "What?" He asked in total confusion. As everyone continued to stare him down viciously I wrangled my two babies and took them out back for lesson number one in listening to their father.
