I remember visiting this website once...
It was called SO SAD SO SEXY! Lykke Li is on the cover of BEAT 25 - Beat Magazine
Here's some stuff I remembered seeing:
Blimey it’s been ages since we chucked out a beautifully-designed, expertly-curated and brilliantly-written magazine featuring a load of people we love and adore, but we’re back now. Please don’t panic. BEAT 25, our summer issue, is hotter than this apparently non-stop heatwave so grab a Solero and let us tell you a bit more…
First of all, as mentioned above, this is our 25th issue. TWENTY FIVE. 25. Isn’t that mad? A bloody self-made magazine that started in the basement of an office in Dalston with a staff of one – and somehow unbelievably during the process she hasn’t aged at all. It must be the magic of newsprint folks! Reaching a quarter century of issues is pretty amazing. For this landmark issue, we’ve decided to go all out, but more on that later.
Things you should know: There are three covers. Iknowright.
The other day we announced that Oliver Hadlee Perch shot our Blood Orange cover – so nice – and today we’re ready to ‘unveil’ another new one. Please avert your eyes downwards.
Yep that’s right it’s Swedish gloom-pop practitioner Lykke Li whose new album
has hopefully been soundtracking those bits in-between Love Island when you feel both horny and frustrated.
Lykke was shot in New York by Chad Moore and interviewed at a later date, while in Sweden actually, by outgoing BEAT online editor Russell Dean Stone. A suitably sad time was had by all.
Elsewhere in the issue, we got Paul Flynn to go and have a really lovely chat with actual icon Neneh Cherry, ahead of her new album (she actually put out a new video recently so have a look at that please). Neneh was shot by BEAT favourite Clare Shilland in London.
For our recurring Legends section, Andy Welch sat down with Jason Pierce, aka the man who is basically Spiritualized, to talk legacy, creative doubts and new album,
To celebrate, BEAT 25 will also include a massive poster-sized pull-out issue made up of some of our best photography, including shots of Sky Ferreira, Warpaint, Josh Homme, Lorde and, oh, Beyoncé. Did we mention she was on the cover once? Good times. There will also be some of the best quotes from our interviews too. Basically, start stripping your wallpaper because you won’t be needing it.
Please do keep your eyes peeled for a copy.
