Story-Board, Snape's Worst Memory,Harry Order of the Phoenix

AislinnB With respect to the film 'HP and the Order of the Phoenix,' I really hated the Marauders' lack of meaningful roles in this scene ('Snape's Worst Memory'). In fact, in the film OotP they shafted the entire Marauders group and downplayed them into little more than cardboard stand-ins. I wish they had gone into a lot* more detail on this critical moment when Harry first sees his father James, and the rest of the Marauders except for Remus, torturing the young Severus. I was very disappointed in that scene; it went by way* too fast. I would love them to have filmed it properly, exactly like it was in the book, showing real interaction and dialogue between the characters as Harry saw them through the Pensieve. That had the potential to be an important and pivotal scene, showing just who was who and what was what at Hogwarts in the 1970s. The scene could have given important clues as to why things in 'HP' were a certain way, because of what had happened in the past. It would have been very enlightening; I had gone to the movie really looking forward to seeing that scene the most, and I came away from it so disappointed! That said, I must admit that the darling guy who played the young Sirius (James Walters?) was very sweet on the eyes when I got a real look at him in the still photos! It's such a shame that the 'Let's-Torture-Snivellus' scene went by so quickly, you couldn't even get a good look at him (or the others)! That's what I mean--the scene deserved to be done right. For example, they should have given the other Marauders speaking roles. Preferably, they could have addressed each other by name so that even a non-book-reading viewer could figure out who they were. Then the audience would have been able to distinctly make out their various personalities. Viewers would also have been given a chance to identify Sirius, Remus, and Peter with their respective characters as adults. Not to mention getting a decent look (along with Harry) at his much-talked-about father James. And seeing James' interactions with his tight-knit group of friends, as well as with his enemy Snape. They should have shown James and Sirius grinning at each other and trading 'anti-Severus' quips, so you could make them out as best mates ganging up on the unpopular Severus. Also Remus' quiet and non-bullying personality could have shown his disapproval of what James and Sirius were doing, in his eyes and demeanor while he was reading the book. And Peter could have been egging James and Sirius on--cheering them from the sidelines. Also Lily could have had many more lines in that scene--she and James could have had more 'back-and-forth' dialogue so that you could get a real feel for the tense vibe and sexy 'buzz' between them. After all, Lily is going to be James' soulmate. Together they will conceive the protaganist-hero of the entire series. And Harry will go through the rest of his life longing to have known them. Their absence from his life is one of the biggest themes running through the whole Harry Potter saga. Not to mention that Severus could have had more lines and been shown defying the Marauders and venting his rage on Lily. In other words--like I said before--that scene should have mirrored the book exactly. What a waste of so much potentially great stuff! As I said, this whole 'past scenario' thing seems to me to be a pretty central theme running through the post-GoF books. It explained who and why Sirius was what he was. The same for Remus, the same for Peter, and--most critically--the same for Severus. It sets the stage for everything that is to come, by explaining events that happened in the past. Extremely disappointing...

Cas_Cat_2 OMG, i totally agree with you! I LOVE the Marauders, and i loved reading this scene on the book. So i had HUGE expectations about it. And they messed up the scene. =/ Very disappointing really, i think that's part of the reason why i hated that movie. It's the worse of the six movies for me. I really hope we get to see the Marauders scenes we deserve in the 7th movie! And agree with you on the Sirius actor, i saw "normal" photos of him, and he looks cute. He has great eyes <3 But i think he looked a bit weird on the movie, his hair was messy. That's not how JK describe him, he was supposed to be [b]very[/b] handsome.. =/

The video portrayal of the characters is truly excellent. That is exactly* the way they were evoked to me in the book, based on their descriptions. Your James and your Sirius--YOWZA! To die for! I wish they had cast them looking like that. Lily too. The length and interactions of the scene should have been exactly* the way they were done in the above video. "I really hope we get to see the Marauders scenes we deserve in the 7th movie!" Yep. You know they are splitting 'Deathly Hallows' into two parts, don't you? But the way he stares out at you from the still of the 'Marauders on the Prowl' when he's walking straight towards you with James at his side and a sexy-but-deadly look in his eyes--as well as a slightly smirking smile--was awesome!! Wonder what color his eyes are? In the book, Sirius was supposed to have incredible gray eyes. Have you seen the fan art all over the web showing Sirius? WHOA--it just blew my mind how much there is! And it's good, too! I got a distinct feel for his personality just from looking at all those drawings and paintings. And I was astounded to find out just what a huge fan base the 'Marauders-era' characters apparently have. "But i think [J Walters] looked a bit weird on the movie, his hair was messy." Well, I remember the 70s (ha, ha! I'm such an Old Lady) and James W's hair looked very true-to-life. Shoulder-length, a wavy curl running through it. And like I said, I thought he had a really sexy stare! Of course, I am much more familiar with American schools than Brit ones. So I don't know what kind of rules they had over there about hair lengths. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ One other thing I find important to note is that I read (only parts of) the books--and view the films--from an adult's perspective. So it's a much* different viewpoint than that of the targeted audience (8-to-14-year-olds?). The things that intrigue me about the characters are certainly different than what the kids will notice. And things in the films may be somewhat 'toned down' as a sop to the parents of the target audience. Man! If Rowling/the films actually depicted what really* went down in the 70s...let's just say that the parents would make the books and films off limits. Which would probably be hypocrisy, since I believe the bulk of today's parents were students in the 70s... :-) Nudge, nudge--wink, wink--know what I mean? ;->>>

I would die to draw well like this. xD And yea, the Marauders have a really big fan base, they should give them more recognition. =[ I've hear the the 7th book will be divided in two, that's why i have hope for that movie. The Marauders and Lily have a huge and important part on that movie, if they waste that, i will be very very angry. =[ And lol, you aren't a Old Lady at all, you sound really awesome! =]
