The light reappears, and I look back down at my arm where Rose grabbed it. I knew almost nothing about her, but I could tell that woman holding her was her worst fear. My arm's its normal tan, but with red-white streaks across it from her finger marks. Some random guy starts talking to the blonde girl, whose name I think is Annabeth, pointing at me and gesturing wildly. She just nods, and turns to me and kneels. I take a step back, realizing I was too absorbed in my arm and shock to notice they were all kneeling.
The sudden light that had revealed Rose's captor was still lingering. I looked upwards, and saw a yellow sun-shaped orb over my head. It was fading, but it was definite. The horse man-Chiron- said, "All hail Kendall Camren. Son of Apollo."
After that quick moment, everyone got back up and sat at the میز, جدول again. I was trying to breathe slowly, not die from shock, and not pass out. I'm not sure I achieved any of these things. But I was vaguely aware of a heated conversation, about what we were going to do. Not everyone had seen the woman, so Annabeth and the guy- who had told me his name was Will- gave a تفصیل the best they could. I filled in a bit once they asked me, about her face, which was turned towards me, and how Rose took hold of my arm as if this was the one person she was afraid of. Suddenly, in the middle of me دکھانا the marks on my arm, a redheaded girl doubled over and then slowly lifted her head back up, gazing at me intensely.
"Four demigods shall rush to her aid,
Across the water, the quest must be made.
One will be maimed, one will die,
Two will have souls ripped from bodies to fly.
Only three will return to Camp Half-Blood alive."
She collapsed back into her seat, pulling a ہار out from under her shirt. It was a leather beaded one like other campers wore, but it had a small pouch attached. She reached in and took out a small glowing scroll, and set it in the middle of the table. Slowly, it uncurled and revealed the words of the prophecy-like poem etched into the ancient papyrus in golden script. I stared, but no one else reacted, just sat quietly while the girl began to stand on wobbly knees. Annabeth got up and helped her to an adjoining room, and Chiron turned to me, trying to explain. "Have آپ heard of the Oracle of Delphi?"
He told me all about Rachel and her mystical powers, and now a quest must be made to fulfill the prophecy she had predicted. Usually, whoever asked a سوال was one of those questers. "But since she was glaring right at you," Percy added, "You obviously have to go."
"WHAT???" I cried. "I have no training! I just saw a girl kidnapped, my mother killed, frickin' MONSTERS, and آپ want me to go on a heroic journey to save the damsel in distress? I'm not the knight in shining armor. I'm no hero."
"It has been predicted سے طرف کی the Orcale," Chiron کہا firmly, "so it is decided."
I sagged into my office chair, putting my hand on my face. "Fine. Fine, I'll go."
Will stood. "I'll go too. Teach him how to use a bow and arrow, everything a son of Apollo needs to know."
Annabeth had come back, unnoticed, several منٹ پہلے from helping Rachel, and she opened her mouth, but Chiron raised a hand and she closed it again. "Yes, Annabeth, آپ and Percy may be the final two. Gotta keep that every-summer quest record."
"YES!" She jumped up and flung her arms around Percy's shoulders, giving him a big kiss on the cheek. They were boyfriend and girlfriend, I guess, but everyone else groaned and rolled their eyes like they were used to it.
I took my hand off my face. "Can I go now?"
Chiron didn't notice, but Percy gave a solemn nod. I left quietly with my pack and new weapons, sitting on the steps of the Big House because I didn't have anywhere else to go.
