Sullivan Stapleton: From \'Strike Back\' To \'Blindspot\' And Still On Top

Today is a difficult day as we brace ourselves for the series finale of

, which comes to an end after a tremendous run on Cinemax. TV is about to lose a show the likes of which it may not see again.

But making things easier for us is Sullivan Stapleton, who shined as Damien Scott on

, and who joined Starpulse earlier this season to talk about what it was like for him to say goodbye to our favorite former Delta Force operative and move on to the FBI.

, which wrapped filming this past December. "I had a great job with great people. It was great to be a part of."

became not just great, but something that\'s going to stand the test of time. Plot-wise, it was Damien Scott who was needed by Section 20 to decipher John Porter\'s coded message and whose introduction to the team set off this four-season adventure. Everyone else was already part of the team; he came in and shook it up.

From a series perspective, he and Philip Winchester were always at the heart of the show. It was their chemistry that drew in fans and made the series about more than just good guys versus bad guys. And particularly for Sullivan, he had the role that could\'ve easily fallen apart.

A lesser actor could\'ve made a caricature out of Damien, with his wisecracking, womanizing, and oftentimes careless attitude. But the Damien Scott we knew and came to love was more complex than that, and turned out to be a guy you\'d trust with your life.

In fact, he became a character that we loved to watch grow. And you can argue that he never grew more than he did in this last season, finally making amends with the son he left behind and trying to pursue a future with colleague Julia Richmond (Michelle Lukes). So how did Sullivan feel when

"It was also sad," he told us. "I kind of wanted to explore that relationship more. And it was nice. Damien\'s set on being a dad to his son and finally got to have a relationship with Richmond and unfortunately, she got killed."

For everything Scott went through (and it was a lot), he\'s going to go down as an amazing character. Every

fan probably has their favorite one-liner and we can all appreciate his, erm, less restrained approach to soldiering. But over the last four seasons, he\'s become like an old friend, that guy who while he might make you laugh would still ask you if you\'re okay or show up to bail you out of trouble. He felt like a real person, and that\'s because there was a really down-to-earth actor bringing him to life.
