"Phan" is actually came from part of the عنوان "Phantom", referring the شائقین as Phans. Get it? Phan sounds like fan. The term is created YEARS ago. I don't know who created it but it probably came around when the very first POTO movie came out.

It could be when the lost 1917 one came out. But I don't really think the term came that early.

If I had to guess it started with the Webber musical, possible it exisited before hand but its still most assoicated with Webber's version.
