Chapter 1

I always loved the rain...

The sounds…the sight…the smell…

But little did I know…the rain…brings out some mysterious and often scary things…

I was walking ہوم from a friend’s house about a سال ago. The sun went down and it was pretty dark outside. The only things illuminating the darkness were the سٹریٹ, گلی lights and the occasional passing car.

“Now, are آپ sure آپ don’t want me to walk آپ home?” Mia asked, looking slightly worried. “It’s dark already and I don’t want آپ getting lost. Plus, what if your back starts to hurt? You’ll need someone to help you.”

“I’m sure I can handle walking for 15 minutes. And besides, it’s not like I haven’t walked at night alone before. See آپ at school tomorrow!” I کہا to her as I left.

Not so long after I started heading for home, it started to drizzle, and not long after that did the rain become a little heavier. I didn’t mind it, though. It was a hot and humid دن and the rain felt quite pleasant on my کیریمل, کآرامال colored skin. I couldn’t help but notice that…it seemed that tonight was one of those rare nights that all was quiet. Not even the infamous noisy party animal neighbors made a sound. Only the rain was heard. I decided to shake it off and kept walking.

But then, all of a sudden, I started hearing what I believed to be crying. After futilely trying to clean off the rain water from my glasses, I looked around and listened to see if I can pinpoint where the crying was coming from, but…I saw no one…and the crying…it seemed to be coming from nowhere and everywhere. Confused, I decided to pull out my cell phone and try to use it as a flashlight. I shined the fairly bright light around and stopped it at a shiny object I noticed in the distance. Keeping the light pointed at it, I walked over onto the گھاس towards the object. When I got there, it turned out that the object was a medium sized metallic box.

But something was strange about it.

The box…it looked completely dry. It had no signs of raindrops plopping onto it, nor did it have any water lying on سب, سب سے اوپر of it. It was just…completely dry. But what threw my off the most…was that on the cover of the box, in brilliant golden letters, it read:

“To Juli…please keep everything in this box with آپ at all times…you’ll need them sooner than آپ think…trust me…I should know…and you’ll thank me later.”

Um…okay…that’s weird. There’s a box of God-knows-what…and it’s meant for me…and whoever sent it didn’t put their name on it. Lovely. Oh well…

I picked up the box; it was…both light and heavy at the same time…if that makes any sense. I waddled up the سٹریٹ, گلی and I finally made it home.
