Why didnt stefan and elena get back together at the end of 2x07?She says she wants to keep everyone safe,but katherine is gone,so how is anyone in danger?

I think Elena realised that all this time she's bin sort of thinking of her self... her & Stefan mostly. And then she saw what that can do to the people she loves.
Even Jeremy called her naive. That probably made her think twice.
And also probably because, she feels something for Damon as well, and wants to sort out her feelings.

Oh, don't be fooled, Katherine is not gone. She is a powerful vampire. It is just a setback for her. I think Elena better wise up, as her brother Jeremy did. I believe that Elena does have feelings for Damon, just afraid to admit it. There is a lot مزید going on there that meets the eye....
Also, she broke it off with Stephan so those she loves won't get hurt. Katherine would think twice about hurting anyone..it's all a game to her!
