Wow, there were a fair share of ups and downs on
The Walking Dead Season 6. But doesn’t that seem to happen every season?
The show got off to a pulse-pounding start with Rick’s botched plan to lead the walkers and then the Wolves assault on Alexandria. The threat of Negan became ever present. Plus, the world even opened up to reveal that far more was going on outside of Alexandria.
But who could forget Glenn and his magic dumpster or that frustrating cliffhanger in the season finale? What about Carol’s breakdown or Rick’s new relationship with Michonne?
There’s plenty to talk about, good and bad, when it comes to The Walking Dead Season 6. Let’s run it down in the latest TV Fanatic Report Card.
The Walking Dead Season 6 Episode 9 was packed with goodness. Name dropping Negan, Daryl using a rocket launcher, and the shocker of Carl losing an eye were all memorable moments. But the hour really closed the door on a chapter of Alexandria while looking to the future of a new world. Alexandria and Rick’s crew really came together as a unit, and yes, there was plenty of walker action, too. It was intense and a satisfying way to return to The Walking Dead Season 6 after the hiatus. It certainly restored my excitement for what was to come.
I’ve got to pick The Walking Dead Season 6 Episode 7 as it not only revealed that Glenn’s death was a lame fake-out that simply jerked viewers around on his fate, but it was overall a boring episode. Hanging out with mopey Enid? Training Ron to shoot a gun? Oh, and Spencer tried a stupid hire-wire act that was reminiscent of Glenn getting in the well in The Walking Dead Season 2 Episode 4. The episode was simply a poor reveal followed by characters trying to fill time until the midseason finale.
We all have our favorites from the core cast, but it was great to see a new character immediately prove to be exciting and interesting. Jesus was memorable right away in The Walking Dead Season 6 Episode 10. He was a compelling character with a personality, and he was just mysterious enough that you weren’t sure if he was a good guy or bad guy. He also has humor, can wear a coat in the sweltering heat and introduced us and Alexandria to a larger world. We only saw him for a little bit of time, but I can’t wait to see more from Jesus next season.
Ron and his teen angst really became grating. The love triangle with Enid was just time wasting, and the fights with Carl were laughable. Plus, his last act before getting killed was trying to kill Carl. Even the crazy Wolf did something redeemable in helping Denise before he died. Sorry, Ron, not going to miss you.
I do think it\'s a little lame that Rick didn\'t get any time to build up his budding relationship with Jessie, but I\'m all for some Rick and Michonne. These two are a power couple. I\'m intrigued to see how their relationship goes now that they are more than just surviving buddies. Though, with Rick\'s recent track record, let\'s hope that Michonne doesn\'t get put on the chopping block either. #Richonne
Nicholas shooting himself in front of Glenn and then the two toppling over into the pit of walkers for certain death was jaw dropping. Just seeing Glenn scream out as walkers pulled out guts was graphic, heartbreaking and stunning. It\'s just too bad that the whole moment was undercut by the fake-out and poor choice from the writers to drag out the "did he die" question for multiple episodes. It went from a ballsy and shocking moment that was filled with tragedy to ridiculous and shocking that the writers even decided to try and pull it off in the first place. Ugh.
