Chapter 2
Lunadapple ran across the border marks of her territory, a piece of meat in her jaws. It was midday and the sun was shining, while the زیبرا watched her pass in suspicion, as she dashed across the open lands.
Soon, she came to a small ماند, خلوت خانہ that was just a huge boulder over a dugout. A male dog slithered out from the ماند, خلوت خانہ entrance and smiled as he saw the meat. Lunadapple lowered her head and put the piece of meat on the ground. “Hello, Apollo” she greeted, “Is Darkspots around.” Apollo nodded.
It had passed many moons since Lunadapple left Apollo as a pup with her sister. Now Apollo was almost full grown and had the developing mussels of a fighter, although Apollo was calm and always enjoyed when Lunadapple brought food for him and Darkspots. She had kept her promise and every couple of days, would bring a piece of meat for them.
Then Darkspots crawled out from the den, “I’m getting to old for this” she complained. Apollo smiled in amusement, it didn’t surprise him that Darkspots was so grumpy all the time. She was always stiff because she never left the den, and she was always hungry because Lunadapple always brought a small piece of meat, instead of a whole zebra.
“I can’t sneak that much meat away from the group,” Lunadapple had answered, “If I take مزید than I can carry then their bound to know something’s up. If آپ want مزید food so bad then goes hunt for it yourself.”
Although Apollo knew that it wasn’t a problem anymore, since he now hunted for him and his foster mother. A moon ago, Lunadapple started to teach him how to hunt warthog and then work his hunting strategy up, although most of the best morsels, like زیبرا and wildebeest, had to be caught with a pack.
Then Lunadapple stood up and turned to go back to her own territory. “Wait” Apollo called, to his mother. Lunadapple glanced back as Apollo ran up to her. “Take me with you! I want to go back to my birth pack!” Lunadapple gazed at Apollo in horror. “You know that they’ll never accept you, Apollo” she reminded him. “I don’t care” Apollo growled while looking down at his paws, “I will do whatever it takes to prove myself, I promise.”
Lunadapple smiled, “alright, well work on a plan to get آپ back in the pack, but it won’t be easy.” She warned Apollo. “Life isn’t easy” Apollo pointed out, Lunadapple rubbed heads with Apollo, “I will be back here at sun high, if we’re going to do something that gets آپ in the pack then we must get up early!”
Apollo nodded, “thank you, Lunadapple.” Lunadapple turned and disappeared through the long golden grass.
That night, as Apollo closed his eyes, he wondered what he could do to get into the pack. Darkspots crawled into the ماند, خلوت خانہ a few heartbeats later. She stumbled towards him then plopped down beside him.
Apollo turned his attention away from her and back to the idea. He looked up at the sky, which was visible through the ماند, خلوت خانہ entrance. The stars seemed to be lighting up the whole sky.
“Ancestors, hear my prayer, give me an idea! Help me get back into the pack!” yet the stars were as silent as ever. It didn’t even seem like anyone had heard him, besides Darkspots, who was pretending to sleep beside him and کہا nothing about his prayer.
Apollo sighed and rested his head on his paws, he hoped that an idea would come soon, he desperately wanted to get back in the pack but how could he? The odds seemed so hopeless. I have to try; he told himself if I never try then I’ll never know if it’s possible.
Apollo awoke to see himself surrounded in a place that seemed full of growth. Everything was growing! The bushes had blossomed, the flowers had bloomed, and Apollo had never felt such soft and healthy grass! The clouds were white, the sun was shining, the air was perfect temperature, and he could smell all his پسندیدہ food, everything was so great!
Then he spotted a female of his kind, over سے طرف کی a river. He had never seen a dog look so healthy! Her کوٹ was sleek and shinning, and her amber eyes made him feel strangely calm. Her beauty overwhelmed him, but he had never seen her before. Is she a loner, he wondered?
He gazed at her closer and noticed that she was standing over a flower. It was a tulip, an old dried out dead one that wasn’t half as beautiful as she was.
She leaned over it and breathed on it. Immediately the ٹیولپ, گل لالہ straightened, its leaves spruced, its stem stood tall and strong, and its petals changed from a light dull color to a bright red color!
Apollo stared in astonishment as the female wild dog smiled then stood from where she had sat. Then she finally noticed him watching her, “wonderful day, isn’t it? Although my flowers prefer the shade much better! I wish Stormblaze would use his clouds to water my plants, their thirstier then ever in this heat!”
Apollo کہا nothing, he was confused, “Your pants? How did آپ make that plant grow? Who are you, and who is Stormblaze?” The female smiled in interest. “Why, don’t آپ know? I am Cedarheart, harvester of plant growth and living things. And Stormblaze is the ruler of all ancestors, he also controls the sky, which means he could make rain fall, to water my poor dry plants.”
Apollo remained silent then said, “Well Cedarheart, do آپ mind telling me where I am?” Cedarheart smiled, “why you’re in ancient Storm of course, remembering? Ancient Storm is the ancestors of the real pack Storm that live down on earth!”
“Yes, I’ve heard of them” Apollo said, “but what am I doing here?” Before Cedarheart could answer, Apollo saw another dog step out of the bushes. “I brought you” a dog answered.
Apollo gazed in astonishment at the wild dog; he was fully black with amber eyes. “I am Ashclaw, ancestor of Storm, and I have answered your prayer.” Apollo gulped, as Ashclaw stepped nose to nose with him. “I have a plan” Ashclaw leaned closer and spoke very softly, “Now here is what آپ need to do…………..
As Apollo awoke the اگلے morning, he stood on his paws and stretched, Darkspots stirred beside him. She lifted her head as he began to walk towards the ماند, خلوت خانہ entrance. “Where are آپ going, Apollo?” She asked. Apollo looked back at her, his eyes shining, “Its sun high and I have a plan to get back in the group!” He announced proudly. Darkspots looked unsure and Apollo knew that she didn’t think whatever plan he had was going to work.
Apollo turned back towards the ماند, خلوت خانہ entrance to leave when Darkspots spoke again, “wait” she called. Apollo glanced back, “before آپ go, I just wanted آپ to know how proud I am of آپ and how much I will miss you.” Her eyes were full of sadness as she spoke and Apollo knew that her she was practically begging him not to go.
He walked back to her and rubbed his mussel against hers, “you were a good mother to me Darkspots, but I don’t belong here, I should be living in a pack, not as a loner.” Darkspots looked uncertain, “but آپ have me” she objected.
Apollo shook his head, “one member isn’t enough, I want to be around my pack mates” Apollo glanced at the entrance with shinning eyes, a warm breeze blew through the entrance and swept past his face, as if it was calling to him, to run outside and شامل میں his group, “I want to hunt with the pack, to be warmed سے طرف کی the breath of my pack mates on cold-season nights, I want to grow old with the one I love.” He turned his head back to Darkspots sad face, “and I can’t do any of that here” he explained.
Darkspots nodded, “I understand Apollo, but I will still miss you.” Apollo slightly smiled, “I will miss آپ too.” He کہا sadly then turned and slipped through the ماند, خلوت خانہ entrance. Darkspots never took her pleading eyes off him, until he was out of sight.
As Apollo, stepped outside Apollo braced his mussels and bounded away from the den. The wind seemed to guide him to and also seemed to be running with him, making Apollo feel so light on his paws, he felt as if he could fly.
As Apollo reached the border to his pack, Storms territory, he found his mother Lunadapple waiting for him. Her ears piped up and she got up and walked over towards him as he approached.
“I presume you’ve thought of a plan?” She asked. Apollo nodded and began to briefly explain what Ashclaw had told him. The مزید he explained, the مزید interested and amused Lunadapple seemed to be. When he finally finished explaining, Lunadapple smiled, “that is a great plan Apollo! Let’s go now and make that plan reality!”
Apollo was surprised, “now?” He asked. “Why not, I thought آپ were eager to شامل میں your birth pack?” Lunadapple seemed confused. Apollo shook his head, “I am I am!” He confirmed desperately then glanced back at his old den; he guessed that Darkspots was still sleeping there.
Lunadapple smiled, “then let’s put the plan into action! آپ go wait there and I’ll go and get Razorthorn!” Without another word she dashed off towards her camp. Apollo sighed and headed for the area where the trap would be set.
Apollo soon came to a dirt road; there weren’t many of these in the area. He glanced back and forth rapidly until he spotted a large bush, not far from him. He padded towards it then slithered under its branches. After getting in a comfortable position, he relaxed and began to wait for Lunadapple to arrive, and put the plan in action.
Soon, he began to hear voices; Apollo tilted his ear towards them and listened.
“Lunadapple, I don’t see any marsh buck, their one of the dumbest easiest prey to catch! So where are they? آپ کہا آپ saw a whole herd!” a firm voiced male, demanded. “I-I don’t know, I guess they must have scampered off” Lunadapple lied. The male snorted but not in disbelief but in frustration.
سے طرف کی now, Apollo could hear the voices of many other wild dogs. He shook in excitement then look up at the sky. Ashclaw had told him that there would be a بادل that blocks the sun today, and when it does a car will speed on the road so fast no one will hear it coming! That would be Apollo’s chance to save the leader of his birth pack, who Lunadapple was supposed to lure onto the road, and be welcomed into his pack! Apollo noticed that the بادل was beginning to اقدام in front of the sun, this would be his chance!
Then one of the pack members walked beside the بش that Apollo was hiding in. It stopped and sniffed the air. It looked around suspiciously and wrinkled its nose.
Oh no, Apollo thought, he’s going to pick up my scent! Just then, the wind picked up and was blowing towards Apollo instead of away from him. The dog’s nose stopped twitching and it calmly walked back towards the rest of the pack.
Apollo sighed with relief and silently thanked his ancestors for the wind change; he thought that he could almost hear the wind answering, “You’re welcome.”
Then Apollo began to hear a sort of humming noise, he looked up to the sky and realized that there was a بادل in front of the moon! He dashed out of the bush, ignoring the brambles that tugged at his فر, سمور and ran straight for the road.
He saw a medium sized muscular male dog, standing in the middle of the dirt road. Apollo could see the speeding car behind him. He quickly pushed the leader of the pack out of the way, a heartbeat before the car wheels zoomed over where he had been standing.
The pack leader only starred in astonishment at first. “You, آپ saved my life” the leader mumbled in disbelief. The rest of the pack gazed at Apollo with the same confused faces as their leader.
The alpha male shook his head and stood straight again, “excuse me manors, I am Razorthorn, alpha male of the pack of Storm of blazing fire. I feel I owe a debt to آپ for saving my life from that speeding car. So is there anything that I can do for آپ in return?” Razorthorn asked. Apollo slightly nodded, “yes, in fact there is, I have been living as a loner my whole life and well, I would like to شامل میں your pack.”
Razorthorn shrugged, Apollo knew that the alpha male wasn’t sure about allowing him in. “But, you’re so white, why should I allow a deformed dog into my pack” he growled. Apollo could hear the pack murmuring in agreement. “Razorthorn think about this, if it wasn’t for this dog then آپ would not even be alive!” Lunadapple objected sternly.
Razorthorn growled at her but then looked down at his paws. “I hate to admit it, but I suppose your right, Lunadapple.” He turned back to Apollo, “for now, I resume judgment on my decision to keep deformed members out of the pack.” Razorthorn pronounced then he turned and walked back towards the دل of the territory.
Apollo wasn’t sure what had just happened, most of the pack members were turning away from him and following Razorthorn. Lunadapple left the ranks of them and ran towards him, “we did it!” She exclaimed, “You’re back in the pack!”
