Hutch looked at his brother sleeping beside him. He sighed, a ماہ ago, Humphrey could never say a mean thing to anybody. After the wedding, however, he changed into the equivalent of a sharp-edged stone. Cold and unfeeling were his traits now.

Hutch had come with Humphrey at the order of Winston and at the request of an Alpha female, Luna. Hutch could tell that she had feelings for his brother, but he doubted that Humphrey had noticed; he was too caught up in self-pity.

Humphrey began to awake, "Good morning, Hutch." he کہا as he stretched.

Hutch cleared his throat, "Humphrey, I know that I promised that I would accompany آپ on this journey, but I'll have to go back to Jasper soon. I'm سیکنڈ in command of both packs, I can't just up and leave like this. I beg you, come back with me. آپ never have to see her again if آپ don't want to, but she's not the only she-wolf on the planet. In fact, I know of a beautiful young Alpha, not Kate mind you, that would be مزید than happy for آپ to just acknowledge her presence."

Humphrey tipped his head to one side, looking genuinely confused, "Who?" he asked.

"It's a secret. If آپ want to know that badly, you'll have to come back to Jasper with me. Then I just might introduce her to you, then again, I might not; I might make آپ find out on your own."

Humphrey play-growled at him, "Oh yeah, how about I make آپ tell me?" he leapt at Hutch.

They collided and rolled around the train car, batting at each other with their paws. Hutch pushed his brother away, but Humphrey lost his footing and fell out of the open door.

"Humphrey!" Hutch yelled.

Humphrey was already running towards the train, but he was losing ground. Hutch was about to leap out the door after his brother but Humphrey called out to him. "No, آپ keep going. I'll catch up sooner یا later."

Hutch felt bad about this happening to Humphrey because he was teasing his brother about a girl, "Stay close to the tracks!" he called back, "Stay safe." he whispered...

Hutch saw a sign that کہا "Welcome to Canada", he knew that he was almost home.

Humphrey had fallen off of the train yesterday, and Hutch was impatiently awaiting the sight of Howling Rock on the horizon. When it finally came into view, Hutch leapt out of the train car and raced towards the Alpha den.

He passed a light gray بھیڑیا on his way, the she-wolf raised her head, recognizing the scent, and followed him. Hutch dashed into the den, panting hard. The gray بھیڑیا followed a سیکنڈ later, "Hutch," she asked, "did آپ find him?"

Hutch nodded his head, breathing too hard to speak. Winston walked up to him, "Hutch, what happened? Where is Humphrey?"

Hutch took a منٹ to catch his breath and answered, "We were on the train, I managed to convince him to come back home, but he fell out of the car."

Hearing this, the she-wolf gasped, "Is he okay?" she asked.

Hutch shrugged, "I don't know, Luna. When I last saw him, he was fine; but that was yesterday." Hutch lowered his head in shame, "I'm sorry, I failed."

Kate was just walking into the cave when she saw Hutch talking to Luna. "Luna," she called, "can I talk to آپ real quick?"

Luna padded up to Kate and sat down, "Where is he, Luna? I thought that Hutch was going to bring Humphrey back."

Luna gave Kate the best scowl she could muster, "Have آپ ever considered that maybe he doesn't want to come back? آپ hurt him really bad, Kate. I know that I'm your friend, but what happened to him because آپ wanted to keep secrets... it made me absolutely livid. I don't want to ever see another بھیڑیا in that kind of pain, let alone Humphrey. He was always so kind to everybody..." Luna trailed off for a moment. Then she turned and walked back to Hutch, casting Kate a menacing glare over her shoulder.

"Take me to him, Hutch." Kate ordered.

She padded confidently towards them, but Luna shoved her aside, "No, leave her out of this, Hutch. Lest we forget, it was her who made Humphrey want to leave in the first place."

Kate slammed a paw into the ground, "Fine! I'll find him on my own, then." she stormed out of the den.

Hutch ran past her and stood in her way, "There is a train going سے طرف کی tonight and another one tomorrow afternoon. We'll rest tonight, eat as much as we can,and then tomorrow, we will bring him back."

Kate was waiting سے طرف کی the railroad tracks, listening for the telltale whistle that meant a train was approaching. Kate pricked her ears as she heard a noise behind her, she turned around to see Garth. "I'm not going to wait for the others." she stated.

Garth nodded, "I understand, but are آپ sure that he will be happy to see you? Whether he likes it یا not, we are married. I think that if he saw you, it would just cause him مزید pain."

Kate lowered her head, "I want to apologize to him, I don't want him to leave like this, it's not right."

Garth placed a paw on her shoulder, "I know. Hurry, the train is coming."

Kate listened, sure enough, there was a train approaching. Kate rushed towards the nearest open car and jumped in. Garth waved his tail in farewell, and Kate waved back as the train carried her away from Jasper...

'Hutch کہا that they had been traveling on the train for a little مزید than a day, so that means, I should get off in about an گھنٹہ یا so.' Kate thought to herself.

She was about to sit back down when she saw the running form of a black and silver wolf. It looked in the open train car, and seeing Kate, stopped in its tracks. Kate leapt from the car, preforming a complete 1080 آگے flip before landing a few yards ahead of the wolf. Kate turned around to see that the بھیڑیا was gone.

She took a deep breath, it was Humphrey!

Kate began to follow the scent trail, running faster than she ever thought possible, but Humphrey was still staying ahead of her.

Kate jumped over a log in her path and noticed that the scent trail was gone. Kate looked back to see a small creek with ripples running from the center. Kate followed the creek, she was beginning to hear the panting of a بھیڑیا in front of her, so she ran faster. Kate followed the sound of the panting as it left the creek and turned back towards the railroad tracks. Kate raced after the بھیڑیا and when she had closed in enough, pounced on its back.

The بھیڑیا immediately became limp and submissive, whimpering, "Please, don't kill me, Eve. I'm sorry that I made Kate cry, don't kill me."

An absolutely wicked thought came into Kate's mind. She bent down and whispered into his ear, "Now, Humphrey, I am going to rearrange your organs." in a perfect imitation of her mother.

Humphrey began to struggle even harder, almost shaking Kate off of his back. "Humphrey, calm down! I'm not going to kill you," she lifted herself off him, "it's me, Kate."

Humphrey looked at her with eyes wide with bewilderment that were overcome سے طرف کی sadness and were filled with rage. "Why are آپ here?" he growled.

Kate stared at him, "I came to bring آپ home."

Humphrey glared at her, "So, I was right! آپ did send Hutch after me. To think that I trusted him..."

Kate shook her head, "No, Luna sent him after you. She has had her eyes on آپ for a very long time, but آپ were too distraught to notice anything but your own sadness. Luna almost hates me for what happened to you, I had to sneak away from the pack to get here first."

She took a deep breath, closed her eyes, and spoke, "Humphrey, I'm sorry for what happened. I should have told آپ that I was going to get married, but I didn't think it would affect you. For the record, I don't love Garth, but I can't love آپ either. I'm sorry."

Kate sighed and opened her teary eyes to see that Humphrey was gone.
