I didnt start from the beginning. I thought that since i watched the first three movied that I could get away with readig the fourth book and know what was happening. I didnt realize that there was so much other things that were going on that wasnt in the movies so I went back and read from the beginning after book 4.

I start on the 5th book but i already had saw the 4 movies and know a lot of details from the other books :P
But after read the 5th, i read all of them.. And i love it! ;)

i was pretty little when the HP books first came out so my mom played the audio tapes & i listened i listened to sorcerers stone & chamber of secrets then the movie came out & i started reading prisoner of azkaban that was my favorite but when they made prisoner of azkaban a movie they totallly fuckign screwed it up!

Well, it doesn't really make sense if you read the other books first. How would you know about the development of the Trio's friendship, Voldemort...everything's set up in the first book. I don't get how you can NOT read the first book first and still understand the others

hooked on an excerpt from it in a magazine. i told my mother about it, and the next day she came home with the book for me. the rest is history :)

Of course I started with the beginning. Actually, I had heard of the books, but didn't think they were for me. Then, for Christmas I got the first book from my grandparents. I read and got hooked. THANK YOU GRANDMA AND GRANDPA!!!!

I've always watched the movies and loved them so i decided to start reading the books. when i went to the book 5 midnight premier i tried to read but was to boring. so when the 6th book came out, i actually read and i was like, "Wow, this is actually good." then i went back and read the 5th book and i understood it even more. only till recently did i actually read books 1-3.

I was pulled into the series via love interests... my sister had informed me that this "Krum bloke" had a thing for the "girl in the trio"... Those were the days of ignorance...

i have no idea why the hell the Americans have changed the name of the first Book PHILISOPHER STONE JK rowling named it that and how dare they change the title of the boook whne it is not that name i think it is a utter total lack of respect

Anyone else gone back and read them all again? You pick up so many little things now, that you just didn't notice the first time, JK Rowling is a genius!

Here's what happened: right after the first muvie came out i tried to read the first book but i was like seven or eight and so i couldn't get past the first chapter then when i was in eighth grade or maybe seventh i saw the Goblet of Fire in our library but they didn't have the first one so i decided to try it out and after i finished it i bought the whole series

I started from the beginning, and from recent comments above, for me, honestly, the book title change isn't a big deal. It's the same story, isn't it?

i started with PS, than COS then GOF, OOF and then POA. POA was sold out in EVERY bookstore in my town and I couldn't wait so I bought GOF and OOF.

It was in the bookcase at our school, the excerpt on the back sounded good, so I started reading it. We weren´t allowed to take the books home, but I brought it home anyway because I couldn´t stop reading. I finished it that night. Sometime that week I found out an other class had PS, so I took it from there. I did put it back after I finished i. (these books were in Dutch, when I was twelve my english was not yet good enough to read an entire book)
Then I started badgering my mother that she should buy the books for me, which she did. After that I read them in the right order.

I started in order.

Mine's called the Philosopher's Stone. And it took me over two years to read, coz I lost it, and had to start over eventually.

I was 9, so I hand't read the books yet, and the movie just came out, so I really wanted to read them. just started with the fattest xDD (5, 6 & 7 weren't out yet). Sometimes it was confusing though xD

I read them in order.I started reading them when I was 11.And I think the 3rd or 4th book was out at the time.

I dont know why though. I think it was because the 4th film was out and I hadnt read any of the books at the time so I read a couple of chapters.. I loved it but then realized that i should read the 1st book first so I put Goblet of Fire down (i was only on like chapter 4) and read the series from scratch :D Even though i didnt read the whole of Goblet of Fire (at first i mean) it was still the first one i read a part of.. to my knowledge anyway

PHILOSOPHER'S Stone. It was changed to Sorcerer in America because Scholastic thought people wouldn't understand what it meant. Way to reinforce the stereotype.

I read them all in order, starting with 1-4 when I was 6. I read the next three as they came out.

There were no movies or sequels yet when I started reading, so naturally I had to start with the first.

A) I started and finished this year

I read the 1st book of course.Sorcerer's Stone is the best way to go.

Oh my god, I can't remember! :O I suppose it was the first one, though I'm pretty sure it was the third book I first came to own. I got it as a present from one of my mom's friends (she had friends back then, not anymore). But I didn't read it, because I had no idea of what Harry Potter was and it was my mother who read it first, liked it, and then somehow we got the other books too, and I started them too? I really can't remember, but I think it was definitely the first book I read first.

I started reading the books after the second film Chamber of Secrets so my order of reading went a little like this: Prisoner of Azkaban, Goblet of Fire, Order of the Phoenix, THEN Philosophers Stone, Chamber of Secrets, Half Blood Prince, Deathly Hallows! I was pleasantly surprised by the Philosophers Stone as i had seen the film first and had not idea that the book would have so much more going on in it :)

I won't read a second book in a series before the first, so it's kind of obvious I would read SS first.

I got bored with the first one, so I read the ENTIRE second-seventh.

i wish i could say Philosophers stone but no :P because my mum was reading right after it came out, and she was ALWAYS reading it, and she read some of it to me, so as soon as she'd finished i was like ooh GIMME! and then i went back and read them all :)

I was given the second one first by accident, so I read it, loved it, then got the first one and went in order from there.

I went back and read the first two after I finished the last one...

It was the only one we had :( I didn't realised that it was a necessity to own every Harry Potter book...

Well i had to read it for a gifted program project in the third grade i've been hooked ever since.

It may sound really stupid..but then i had no idea which one was the first...it was before i watched the films...but quite obviously, i didn't even finish reading a chapter! Then i saw the 2nd film COS, then films 1 to 5 then i started reading books...maybe i read COS first in that case... ;)
