I feel like with all of these picks it's important to make the distinction between "famous" and "popular." Currently Lady Gaga seems more popular (or at least she peaked in popularity above Britney recently) but Britney has been around longer and will be around when Lady Gaga is gone. She's more enduring and overall more people are familiar with her. The same for Madonna and Elvis. ^-^
